                              the Unique Library

There are more than twenty libraries in Yale.I have been to only three of them during my stay here. The most unforgettable is the Beinecke library which is an extraordinary setting for rare books and manuscripts. it is really an amazing and unique library. Besides the outstanding books and collections here, the walls of the building are made of marbles to keep the direct sunlight from touching the priceless collections. The outside looks like a huge box, a jewel box. When you walk inside ,you can feel the light shining through them softly , gently and brightly  making the whole building peaceful. It is beautiful from inside and outside. A real gem in Yale!

                          Music on the Green

Several days ago , i was told there would be a concert at Old Grove Park on Friday. When the day came ,i totally forgot it. As usual we four old students of Yale summer session took a walk  after dinner on campus . When stepping out of Morse college into the street, we found groups of people ,young and old ,men and women, hurrying to the direction of Park, most carrying mobile chairs;gangs of kids on motorbikes rushing there, more and more cars moving slowly . It reminded me of Friday's concert. Following them,  we heard the sound of the Blue  and quickly arrived there. To my surprise, more than 10,000 people gathered there, singing and dancing to the music. we didn't know much about the music, but  we are moved by the sound ,the melody and the rhythm . We all cheered up, raising our hands ,singing and crying happily to the tune. From it ,we got much pleasure and relaxation. Such a big occasion. Yes , music has no borders. The pursuit of pleasure and happiness is the common goal of the world.

                                                 Liberty Enlighting the World

No visit to the New York City area is complete without  visiting the Statue of Liberty , one of the most famous landmarks of America.  last Friday, we came here. It is located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. This momument was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the United States and regarded as  a universal symbol of liberty and democracy. When the cruise ship took me to its front , i was greatly  touched by its grandness. This giant figure, torch in hand and clutching a stone tablet seems to announce to the world: i am free.Moved by it ,i couldn't help raising my right hand, crying free, free,free...The image of  Liberty is deeply branded in my heart. Actually ,nothing is personal, but liberty.

East or West, Home is Best.
Time flies. It has been nearly a month since l left my home in Changsha. Before coming to American i was full of expectation meanwhile along with some worries. Twenty days' Yale life filled me with much pleasant surprise and enlighment. In the daytime i am busy with visiting and observation and at night i  often feel a worm of unease, worrying about my old aged mother.  i am a  only child of my parents which is rare in my age. My dear  mother has been living together with us since  my dad  went away six years ago. It is my pleasure and  duty to look after her. Though my daughter and husband can take care of her, i still feel a sense of unease. Thanks to the communication we viedo via facebook everyday to make both of us relieved. Now i am looking forward to returning  back to my  mother .No matter how old i am , i need mum. When  i was young she gave me love and family. When she is old i give her love and family. In my mind that is the meaning of life itself. I just hope my mother can  live a healthier  happy and long life.

Visiting the University Church in Yale
Last sunday we four observers came to the university church at Yale.It is a unique christian community, with roots in the original Yale college church established in 1757.It was the first time for me to enter the holy place. we stayed there attending worship service.it included a wide variety of global Christian songs and prayers within a traditional four-part pattern of :gathering in God's name, proclaiming God's holy Word, responding to the Word in prayer and sacrament, and being sent forth to serve. It was a baptism of soul. God bless you and me.

               Yale Scavenger Hunt-2014

A scavenger hunt is a competitive game which usually involves collecting objects on a list. It was used in Carrie's class. There were 17 tasks  on her list. The students were required to photograph the task rather than bring items back to prove the success. The mission was to complete as many tasks as possible, prove it and do so before the competitors. It needs cooperation, strategy, communication and luck,  really full of fun and excitement. Iwas lucky to experience it. The two photos show the two tasks  my group finished together
.
In front of "the man with the shiny foot" .Touching the shiny foot can bring you luck and happiness. I believe this so  i did it.

the gate of Phelps Gate . It is said there is a myth behind this gate .It is a pity my group failed to find out.

What's the use of two rings? It is specially designed lock in the graduate building in Yale.It looks like two eyes symbolizing its duty.It is also like  empty zero. But if you put your hands in ,it is full. It's very strong ,hard and refined.
